Reflexology

Reflexology is a method for activating the healing powers within our body.

The ancient art of Reflexology has been known to man for many thousands of years. It is thought to have originated in China and Egypt. It was first practised by early Indian, Chinese and Egyptian people. The first pictorial evidence of work on the reflexes of the hands and feet was in an Egyptian Tomb approx 2,500 BC.

In 1902 Dr William Fitzgerald a physician in Boston & Connecticut became acquainted with and "re-discovered" the zone theory. He noted that the pressure on specific parts of the body could have an anaesthetising effect on a related area. Developing this theory he divided and charted the 10 longitudinal zones of the body. He concluded that pressure on one part of the zone could affect everything else within that zone.

Eunice Ingham a therapist further developed what is now known as Reflexology. She observed that congestion or tension in any part of the foot mirrors congestion or tension in corresponding part of the body. Treating the whole foot can have a relaxing and healing effect on the whole body.
