Active Release Techniques, or A.R.T. for short, is a new soft tissue treatment system developed and pioneered by American Chiropractor, Dr Mike Leahy, based in Colorado Springs, U.S.A.
A.R.T. works by the therapist applying specific tension on the precise locations of adhesions or entrapments, combined with controlled body or limb movements by the patient. This creates a very powerful and highly effective stretching and relaxation of tissue tension and a breakdown of adhesions.
A.R.T. can be used on all soft tissue related problems (soft tissues are muscles, tendons, ligaments, and nerves) from major sporting injuries, surgical rehabilitation, muscular tension and nerve entrapments. It is especially effective at treating repetitive strain injuries.
A.R.T. can be used on its own or in conjunction with Sports Massage.
